MMQG Scrapbag (NEWS)

ALL MMQG meetings and activities are canceled until further notice.  Please watch this space for further information.

Check out our BRAND NEW MMQG NEWSLETTER, beautifully put together by Kathy Traylor!

Thank you to those of you who have already reached out to offer assistance (and even donate quilts!) - but we’re just getting started! It would be great if we could get a donation ready for the Christmas season, but that means we only have about 6 weeks to put it together. We need your help!

Patricia Squire at Fabrics Galore has generously provided us the use of her classroom for a work day:

Fabrics Galore (19 Cobalt St, Blairsville)
Tuesday, October 20th
11 am to 1 pm.
Bring quilt donations, or stop by to pick up patterns or kits so that you can get started! If you cannot make that meeting but want to help, let me know and we’ll work something out.
If you want to get started before then, here are some of the guidelines:

Quilt size needs to be approximately 40” x 50” (any bigger could get caught in a wheelchair). Also:
  • 📍Please limit the amount of white/extremely light colors
  • 📍Please wash your quilt once complete
  • 📍We will add the label

Thank you in advance for your support of this outreach!

Would you like to get together with your friends for a "sew day?"  Here's what Bless My Stitches (Murphy) has for you:
"We have UFO Day on Thursdays from 10:30 to 4:30, but if there is another day you would like to get together with friends and have your own, that's fine too.

You can look at the September calendar once it is posted and see the "open" days where nothing is scheduled.  Make a plan with some friends and give us a call.  We will have a UFO Day just for you and your group.  See the calendar at Bless My Stitches.

We try to keep social distancing the best we can, and try to limit it to 6 students in the classroom so everyone gets their own 6 ft. table.  You can choose to wear a mask or not, I leave it up to the individual".

Want to meet up with your friends at Fabrics Galore and Quilting Store (Blairsville)? Patricia says:

"We have TGIFriday every Friday except the second Friday. I leave it up to each individual to decide on social distancing or wearing a mask. To be comfortable with conditions I would say no more than 8 people at a time - that’s one per table.

Call the shop for available dates. To book the first day would be free, to rent the room on a regular basis would be $5 a person."

The Misty Mountain Quilt Camp is an outreach program to introduce middle and high school students to sewing and quilting in order to pass on the stitching heritage of our guild.  We have worked with teenagers in Fannin, Towns, Union and Clay Counties through the schools and 4-H groups.  All supplies and equipment are supplied by the guild.
The purpose of this message is to encourage more of you to volunteer.  Because of the teenagers' busy schedules, we usually work with them in the summer and during school breaks.  Our program lasts 4 mornings from about 9 to 12 so this is not an all-consuming commitment.  We have had 2 groups most summers and you would not be expected to help each day if it does not fit with your schedule.  There is a set lesson so you will not be required to plan, just totally enjoy the wonderful, enthusiastic teenagers we have here in the mountains.
Please e-mail me if you would like to help or want more information.
