Viewers' Choice Award:  Joanie Clinton

Misty Mountain Quilters' Guild 2017 Raffle Quilt made by Susan Slaton, and won by Judy Lowery of Franklin, NC.

Judy bought 6 tickets for $5 at the show, which just goes to show that anyone can win no matter when they bought their ticket. Judy won two first place Blue Ribbons in our show – one for the “Duet Large Quilt – Pieced," and one for the “Duet Medium Quilt – Pieced."  When she was notified that she had won the Raffle Quilt, which was made by our own Susan Slaton, she told us that she was THRILLED to win it and just loves the reds and whites that Susan chose for this quilt!

Judy is originally from Ohio, lived in Florida for a time (just as many of us did), and she moved to Franklin, NC eleven years ago.  She has enjoyed sewing her whole life, but attended an Amish Quilt Show some time ago and thought she might like to try to use her sewing skills to make quilts. She took one class which nearly turned her away from quilting, but she was encouraged by the teacher and she persisted, enhanced her skills, and now Judy works 2 days a week at “A Stitch in Time” in Franklin and teaches quilting classes.  She has taught a “How to Make a T-Shirt Quilt” class at A Stitch in Time sixteen times, and she also teaches classes in foundation/paper piecing.  In fact, she will be teaching a paper piecing class at a Retreat in November at the Toccoa Baptist Conference Center.

Judy likes to make her quilts from Judy Niemeyer patterns, and has also taken a foundation piecing class from Jacqueline De Jonge.  She loves quilting, and feels it is a great hobby.  Congratulations to Judy for her awesome quilting skills, and for winning our 2017 Raffle Quilt.
